The constraint that shapes every design

A copper channel is limited to 100 metres including patch leads. A large warehouse or long floor plate cannot always be served from one comms room, and the answer is a second room or a fiber link to a satellite rack — a decision better made on a drawing than discovered mid-installation.

Between Cat6 and Cat6a: Cat6 handles gigabit comfortably and 10-gigabit over shorter runs; Cat6a is specified for 10-gigabit at full distance but is thicker, needs more containment and costs more to install. For most offices Cat6 remains right, and we will say so rather than quoting the dearer option by default.

Heat, power and why it matters more here

Cabling now carries power as well as data — access points, cameras, door controllers, phones. Bundled cables carrying power generate heat, and heat raises insertion loss, so large tightly-packed bundles must be derated or split.

In Qatar this matters more than in temperate climates, because ceiling voids and risers are already hot. A bundle sized for a European office can underperform here. It is invisible when done right and difficult to fix afterwards.

What you receive at handover

The difference between a cabling job and a cabling installation is the documentation.

• Every link tested with a certifying tester, not a continuity check that only proves a cable exists
• Results per link, so a future fault can be compared against the day it was installed
• Both ends labelled to a consistent scheme, matching the patch panel
• Rack elevation and floor plan drawings showing what is where
